~ Bull Moose ~

Work in Progress

In the beginning of this commissioned painting of a Bull Moose I sketched the Moose on paper first, then used White Graphite transfer paper to transfer the drawing onto the canvas.
The canvas that I used to start this painting was tinted completely Black

The remainder of the composition is then drawn on the canvas and contact paper is then applied over the drawing; in the area where the Moose would eventually be painted.
Why did I do it this way, you may ask?
The answer is: I didn't want to fudge around my sketch with the paint while trying to avoid going over the drawings outlines etc. This way all of those worries were eliminated.

Here you can see first of all, that I'm not a great photographer, but more importantly that I've pretty much finished up the background for this piece for the most part and have removed the contact paper, to reveal the dark base underneath.

I re-sketch the moose into this area with white colored pencil, to give myself a better idea as to where certain highlights and shadows are located.

A little more work on the antlers, and a few final highlights here and there, and this painting will be finished and ready for delivery.

The customer will be purchasing her own frame for this piece.
